It blends mystery, fantasy, Native American lore, archaeology, and adventure into a story that feels both original and grounded in real places.What stood out to me most was the setting. Pyramid Lake and Lake Tahoe aren’t just backdrops, they become part of the mystery itself. The author does an excellent job of making these real locations feel like they could be hiding ancient secrets just beneath the surface.The world-building is imaginative and well thought out. Concepts like Wono, Puha, and the Other World all fit together into a mythology that feels unique rather than borrowed from traditional fantasy. At the same time, the alternating timelines between the past and the present slowly reveal pieces of a much larger puzzle, making each new discovery feel rewarding.The pacing is fast, with new mysteries and revelations constantly unfolding. If I had one criticism, it would be that I occasionally wished certain emotional moments lingered a little longer before the story moved on to the next discovery. The mystery and mythology are so compelling that they sometimes take center stage over the characters themselves.Overall, this is a creative and highly original mystery-fantasy that feels different from most books in the genre. If you enjoy stories about hidden civilizations, ancient mysteries, unexplained phenomena, and adventures that blur the line between history and fantasy, I think you’ll find a lot to enjoy here. It also left me eager to see where the next installment takes the story.

Wow, what a journey! One of my favorite characters was the elderly Nu-Mu woman. Not because she possesses extraordinary powers, but because she seems to embody the wisdom of Esa, the powerful Wolf God who dwells beneath the surface of Pyramid Lake. Her presence adds a sense of depth and mystery that stayed with me long after I finished reading.The pacing in this book is surprisingly fast. The story alternates between the past and the present, and the author does a great job of weaving the characters, settings, and storylines together into a cohesive adventure. As the novel progressed, I found myself wondering whether the arrival of the colonizers was intended to reflect the westward expansion of the United States during the Gold Rush era. If so, it adds another fascinating layer to the story.And then there’s Alejandra. She is easily one of the most entertaining characters in the book. As one of the modern-day protagonists, she brings humor, personality, and a unique perspective that makes the group dynamic more enjoyable, even in situations where they are literally facing death lol.A Pyramid Lake Story blends Native American lore, mystery, fantasy, hidden worlds, and adventure into a compelling read. I highly recommend it and look forward to the second installment.
